Bush Fire Brigade volunteers play a significant and vital role in helping to reduce bushfire risk within their local communities. As the Community Preparedness Officer, you will play an important role in keeping your community informed and prepared, while also challenging yourself to apply your communication and leadership skills in a rewarding volunteer environment. All training and support will be provided free of charge.

- Are comfortable speaking to groups
- Can work individually or in a team
- Are self-motivated but can follow direction when needed
- Are happy to complete required training
Following your training, you will work under the guidance of the brigade’s Captain to:
- Gain an understanding of risk across your community
- Build and maintain networks in community
- Use the tools and resources provided by DFES and Local Government to educate your community about their bushfire risk and empower them to better prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from bushfire
- Promote community preparedness and resilience by encouraging behaviour change
- Coordinate your brigade’s response to community requests for engagement
- Represent the brigade at community meetings and events, including but not limited to visits to schools/groups, displays and presentations
- Attend Brigade monthly meetings and Executive Group meetings to provide information and to report about community preparedness and community preparedness activities/events.
- Ensure compliance with DFES and brigade requirements, Brigade Rules, Policies and Procedures.
