As an SES volunteer, you will be trained to assist the community in coping with natural disasters including storms, cyclones, earthquakes and floods. As a member of the Collie SES Storm Damage & Search & Rescue Team, your activities may include:
Key Responsibilities
- Responding to natural disasters and emergency situations to support the community.
- Providing assistance to other emergency services, including WA Police, Ambulance and bushfire brigades.
- Participating in community education, public relations, and awareness activities.
- Supporting the ongoing readiness and operational efficiency of the unit.
Key Tasks
- Conducting temporary repairs to houses damaged by storms, floods, vehicle accidents, fallen trees, etc.
- Assisting in flood, earthquake, tsunami, or bushfire response efforts.
- Helping police with searches for missing persons.
- Supporting bushfire operations and other emergency incidents.
- Operating flood boats where required.
- Assisting in incident management control rooms including communications, logistics, operations, and support roles.
- Contributing to non-operational unit maintenance to ensure efficient operational response.
- Developing specialist skills in areas of personal interest.
- Providing assistance for interstate disaster response when opportunities arise.
