As a radio operator you will obtain a high degree of training and qualifications to monitor and operate the marine radio for sea rescue purposes. Suitable applicants are flexible and dedicated people who can display empathy and compassion towards the needs of people in distress. Volunteer radio operators must have good literacy skills (reading and writing) and be able to speak clearly and communicate well. People from a range of ages and physical abilities are encouraged to apply for this non-operational role.

Requirements

  • National Police Certificate *

  • Time Required

    Approximately one 12-24-hour shift per week, negotiable. Must attain a Marine Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency. Induction and basic volunteer training prior to becoming operational.

    Marine Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency. Other training, and uniforms, are provided.
