SES volunteers play a significant and vital role in ensuring the safety of their local communities. Geraldton-Greenough SES is looking for adaptable and flexible volunteers to join our dynamic team to deliver emergency preparation and response. Once trained, volunteers will be equipped to carry out a range of activities, including some or all of the following:

  • Storm damage assistance.
  • Aiding the community in the event of natural disasters.
  • Water Bomber reloading – water and foam retardant.
  • Land and urban search and rescue for missing persons.
  • Structural damage stabilisation – car vs house.
  • Participating in community education and public relations activities.
  • Some opportunities for intrastate, interstate, and international deployment to disaster affected regions.
  • Assist in incident management control rooms, including communications, logistics, operations, and support roles.
  • Operate various radio communication techniques, GPS, map and use navigation techniques.

    Monday weekly training at 6:30pm at Geraldton-Greenough SES, Moonynooka. We expect volunteers to attend at least two training sessions per month to maintain skills currency. Respond to call outs and requests for assistance when available. Attend occasional training courses and exercises throughout the year. Leadership pathway may take several years to complete.

    In addition to the required basic SES training, there is opportunity to do a variety of skills courses and leadership training in the following training pathways: 1. Storm Damage 2. Land Search 3. Vertical Rescue
