SES volunteers assist the community during natural hazards such as floods, storms, cyclones, and earthquakes, and assist with land searches, vertical rescue, communications, and fire ground support. Communications & Operations Support provide essential communication and response to safety and emergency situations and may undertake the following tasks:·
- Operate radio and telecommunications equipment, including field and base station radio·
- Coordinate emergency response with operational staff and stakeholders such as DFES and WAPOL·
- Broadcast weather, local navigational and situational information to emergency services responders·
- Ensure operations and communications equipment is well maintained·
- Adapt to changing circumstances during an emergency
