Vintage Fleet Volunteer

DFES Education and Heritage Centre

DFES’ vintage fleet consists of an assortment of historic and decommissioned fire appliances that provides a representation of fire appliance technology pertaining to the Fire and Rescue Service of Western Australia.

The Vintage Fleet can often be seen at DFES ceremonial and education events as well as community events such as the annual Perth Christmas Pageant.

The Vintage Fleet is maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers from Education & Heritage VFES unit based at the DFES Training Academy in Forrestfield.

We are currently seeking volunteers for the following two roles:

  • Restoration Team - carry out preventative maintenance, inspections, servicing and repairs to the vintage fleet appliances.
  • Driving Team - drive the vintage fleet appliances in parades and participate in DFES corporate and community events.

If you are someone who is:

  • enthusiastic, energetic and cheerful;
  • keen to learn new skills;

  • able to work under pressure and with minimal supervision; and
  • reliable and willing to commit to a roster on a regular basis,

  • National Police Certificate *

Mechanical/Restoration knowledge essential for the Restoration Team
MR/HR driver's licence only essential for the driver team

    The Vintage Fleet Restoration Team meet on Mondays at the Heritage Shed at the DFES Training Academy in Forrestfield. This is the day the team carries out routine maintenance and restoration work on the appliances. The Driver Team is a great option for those who don't have mechanical knowledge or are not available on Mondays. It suits volunteers who have the flexibility to assist at the events that the vintage fleet appliances appear at as they generally occur on weekends.

  • Training

    After the EOI you will be invited to attend the next "Meet the Restoration Team" session to find out more about the roles. One-to-one interviews will then follow. For successful applicants, you will receive an induction and on-the-job training.
