Joining the radio group is open to all members of the public but may be of particular interest but not limited to retirees who may or may not have a marine background and are seeking an interest. You will be contributing to the community through rewarding and satisfying work.   Our radio tower is operated by members over a range of ages.

Adequate reading, writing and communications skills are necessary as a written log is maintained.

Requirements

  • National Police Certificate *

The applicant should be able to confidently operate the VHF radio after completion of training.

  • Time Required

    Commitment is one to two half days per month but can be more if desired. Initial duties would be on a weekend but you may wish to be involved midweek . experience. No previous radio experience is required.

  • Training

    Training is on the job as part of a small team with experienced operators. A VHF marine radio operators license will be required after a settling in period. This can be gained with our assistance through a course in our HQ.
